Booksneeze Review: READ and SHARE Bible DVD

The “Read and Share Bible” DVD series introduces children to the life of Christ in a friendly animated format. “The Jesus Series: Life and Miracles” is a half hour long journey into the ministry of Jesus. Stories featured include; Jesus calling His disciples, The miracle of the loaves and fishes, Jesus healing the sick, and the Lord's Supper.

I would recommend this DVD for the 3-7 crowd. The animation is simple yet vibrant. The stories are classic Sunday School, and would be great to introduce or review lessons in the church or home school setting. The kids that watched it with me (daycare children) seemed to enjoy it and were able to discuss what they had seen afterwards. I will admit that I got bored half way through with the repetition, but the time and pacing was perfect for the kiddos.

Book Review

If you know me IRL (in real life) you know that there are a few things in this world that bring me great joy... besides all things babies... I am a reader. The smell and feel of books is like a drug to me. Those black on white words better than the richest chocolate.

This being said, I have a habit of buying books when I have money to, but often the time to read them does not align with my bank account. Recently I started reading a book bought in such a moment. Havah: The Story of Eve  by: Tosca Lee.

AMAZING!

The season of Lent is a great time to read this fictionalized account of Eve's life from first breath, awakening in the Garden next to Adam to final breath, awakening back into the presence of God. The author attempts to imagine how it must have been to speak with God, fully in His presence to the complete separation that sin created.

I have not finished the book yet but I recommend it so far. It is an adult novel, but I am sure that a mature teen could enjoy it.

"...Help us become simple people, that we may see you plainly. As we wear the mark of ashes, rekindle the sign of hope within our eyes..." - The Worship Sourcebook

Into these Hands

So I had a spontaneous whirlwind trip back home last weekend. My goal was to see as many people as possible, and i didn't do too bad. :) (Thanks for making time for me guys!)

I also received a book as a graduation present from my favorite midwife Wendy. I had never heard of this book until I borrowed a copy earlier this summer when I started attending midwife study group. This book is so amazing.

From the website:
"It is a comprehensive anthology of the life stories of 25 remarkable women who have dedicated their lives and careers to the path of midwifery and social change"

Including some Michigan Midwifes!

What makes my copy special is Wendy had it signed by the editor and the Michigan midwife authors.(everyone who knows me knows that one way to my heart is books that are signed lol)

What made me cry, was the signatures themselves...

When I have my days where I think that I am not good enough to do this I can look at their encouraging words.

"We want you" "Come join us" "It is time to Leap!"

How Should a Christian Live Book Review

What an awesome devotional book series for teens! "How Should a Christian Live" is the 3rd book in the series using scripture from 1-2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1-2 Thessalonians, 1-2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. The sections of each "lesson" really help to make the information stick and apply to everyday life. "GET-IT (help to understand difficult concepts); GRAB-IT (how does this look in your own life); HOLD-IT (how to maintain in everyday life); GIVE-IT (how does this affect others in your life); DEFINE-IT (in-depth look at key words); and LIVE-IT (presentation of ideas, questions, challenges to support each session's content)" (Booksneeze).

I really like that it can be used for independent study as well as small group study. It is long enough to be detailed, but not too long to lose the interest of the reader. The activities with each lesson keep it fun as well as the celebrity recordings on the included MP3- CD. I am excited to share this series with the youth in my home church.

Book Review: REVOLVE 2010

As a teen I remember reading the very first edition of the REVOLVE Bible-zine. I enjoyed the magazine layout and the "cool" pictures. It made carrying the Bible in my backpack easy and fun. Reading the 2010 edition brought back those high school memories. I am looking forward to passing REVOLVE 2010 on to one of "my girls" to read and see what she thinks of it.

The quizzes, and Christian artist spotlights are a lot of fun. A nice touch this year for connecting to teens is the "goodbook" sidebar, highlighting people from the bible in a "facebook" type format. Many young girls might also enjoy the "Beauty Basics" sections modeled after other popular teen magazines. Only these beauty tips are classy not trashy! "Dudes Decoded" is another sidebar based on teen magazines, however, it focuses on positive and God-centered relationships between young men and women.

Revolve's format is geared towards young teens who may be just starting to develop a closer relationship with the Lord and may be a bit too mainstream for many. I think that it is a good way to get teens that may be resistant to reading the bible to feast on the word of God.

***Thanks BookSneeze for the free book to review****
